Participant-Directed Social Recreation, Camp and Non-Medical Therapies (459) #

Service Code Definition: #

Social recreation, camp and non-medical therapies may be purchased, through a Financial Management Service (FMS), if the provider of these services is,

1) not vendored by the regional center; and,

2) the provider’s service is predominantly delivered to individuals who do not receive regional center services.

Providers may include, but are not limited to, city/county parks and recreation programs, YMCA, dance studios, etc. If the provider meets both criteria, regional center vendorization is not required, for either the provider or the consumer/family. Payments for this service will be made to the FMS using service code 459, in addition to the payments made to the FMS under service code 490 or 491 for coordination of these payments. Timing of payments for these services, from the regional center to the FMS, shall not be based on the FMS first making the payment and being reimbursed in arrears by the regional center.

Additionally, the FMS shall be used to pay the provider directly and not to reimburse the family for the cost of the service. Refer to DDS Guidance on Payments for Restored Services, dated November 16, 2022. Separate vendorization for service code 459 is not required.

Additional info: As required in statute, consumers’ Individual Program Plans must identify the type and amount, including estimated total cost, of the agreed upon services.
