Service Code Definition: #
A regional center shall classify a vendor as a provider of START services if thevendor is an agency which employs staff who possess the skill, training, and education necessary to support individuals with mental health needs and has a program certification from the National Center for START Services or is implementing START services and is preparing to receive program certification from the National Center for START Services. START services may be provided to support an individual in crisis or who has complex behavioral, medical, and/or trauma-related support needs, to maintain a less restrictive living or working situation, to avoid in-patient admission, and/or assist after discharge from an in-patient or restrictive setting.
The scope of this service includes, but is not limited to, conducting whole-person assessments; conducting comprehensive service evaluations; developing Cross-Systems Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plans; providing person-centered and trauma-informed case coordination; training individuals, family members, caregivers, and other professionals to implement proactive strengths-based behavioral strategies and prevent distressed behaviors; de-escalating an individual; providing emergency on-call supports 24 hours every day; and providing post-emergency follow-up.
